On 19 November 2021, the Seventh High-level Meeting for Disaster Risk Reduction was held in Nairobi, Kenya in hybrid format. Ministers and Delegates from Member States in Africa adopted the Nairobi Declaration and the matrix of the Programme of Action for the implementation of Sendai Framework in Africa (2021-2025). These were the main outcomes of the Eighth Africa Regional Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction (AfRP) that was held from 16-18 November.
On 17 November 2021, the Government of Republic of Kenya officially opened the 8th Africa Regional Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction as the host country. This key event on disaster risk reduction is convened at a critical time in a context where Africa is facing increasing challenges from disaster risks aggravated by the COVID-19 pandemic and climate change.
The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) Climate Prediction and Application Centre (ICPAC) was officially opened by His Excellency President Uhuru Kenyatta in Nairobi.
A Multi-Hazard Early Warning/Early Action Conference was convened from 20-22 October 2021 in Nairobi, Kenya. The conference was organised by the African Union Commission (AUC) and supported by United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR). The event was attended by representatives from Regional Economic Communities (RECs), African Member States as well as other stakeholders. They came together to appraise, discuss and validate the MHEWS/EA Framework and to provide critical inputs required for the development of the standard operating procedures (SOPs) and data sharing policy of the MHEWS/EA Framework and the Continental MHEWS/EA Situation Room.
During the AfRP, a marketplace on the virtual platform will be organized from 16-18 November, where partners can show case and present their projects that are related to disaster risk reduction as well as the over-arching theme of the AfRP.
This call for proposals is aimed at inviting partners and stakeholders to organize thematic side events and pre-conference events during the AfRP 2021.
