The working session jointly organized by Christoffel-Blindenmission e.V (Christian Blind Mission, CBM) and Platform on Disaster Displacement (PDD). This session will showcase effective practices and examples of people-centered DRR throughout the Africa region, as well as areas for further action. Featuring a disability and gender balanced group of speakers, it will particularly focus on the integration of disability and displacement considerations in Early Action. It will call attention to the specific needs of persons with disabilities linked to early warnings and early action and present practical examples of disability inclusive early warning in Botswana, Malawi, Zambia and Zimbabwe. It will also highlight Kenya's engagement on early action and disaster displacement, showcasing that integrating displacement considerations into DRR strategies and plans can reduce vulnerability and help build the resilience of people at risk.
The session will advocate for the integration of disability and displacement considerations into national and local DRR policies and plans. This holistic approach ensures that DRR strategies are inclusive, addressing the needs of all community members and enhancing overall community resilience. This initiative aligns with the Nairobi Declaration and contributes to building resilient, equitable, and sustainable communities across Africa.
