As the Southern African development Community (SADC) region has been experiencing escalating climate-related risks and disasters, the Southern Africa-Indian Ocean Disaster Preparedness Workshop will focus on three key themes: enhancing urban preparedness by strengthening government systems, advancing anticipatory action through national policy integration and recent lessons learned, and improving regional logistical prepositioning and supply chain capacities. Organized by WFP with DG-ECHO funding, this in-person event will bring together humanitarian stakeholders, government officials, and the private sector to drive collaboration on urban emergency preparedness and contribute to the development of a Regional Prepositioning Strategy for Southern Africa. It will also contribute to the broader goals of the Windhoek Declaration for improved disaster preparedness in the region.
