Call for expression of interest for Learning Labs participants at the 9th Africa Regional Platform for DRR 2024 (Application is closed)

The AfRP-9 and the 8th High Level Meeting on Disaster Risk Reduction is organized by the African Union Commission (AUC) and the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) in collaboration with the Southern African Development Community (SADC).
The AfRP-9 will focus on the following three critical issues or most important to the risk reduction and resilience building agenda today:
Applying Risk Information for Transformative Governance
Investing to Reduce Risk: Changing the way money is spent
Reducing Loss and Damage: Saving lives and protecting investments
The Learning Lab is a dedicated space to actively share good practices and learn from each other on innovative approaches for implementing the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030. The labs will facilitate small groups for peer-to-peer learning.
Objectives
Increase knowledge and skills of participants on a specific disaster risk reduction tool, concept, approach, or good practice.
Promote and share good practices and experiences by connecting practitioners across the region.
Approach
The Learning Labs will offer informal learning sessions that will run throughout the conference. Sessions will last up to 90 minutes and provide facilitated opportunities on specific topics relevant to the AfRP-9 theme.
A small-scale setting of 20 to 30 participants will provide a conducive environment for peer-to-peer learning and the sharing of knowledge and experiences. Sessions should focus on teaching, hands-on learning and interacting with participants and facilitating their learning of a particular tool, concept, approach or good practice.
Learning Labs are not to be used as panel discussions or stakeholder consultation sessions nor to focus solely on promoting the achievements or presenting programme initiatives of specific organizations, individuals or countries.
Speakers and organizers of the Learning Labs will cover their own travel and accommodation costs and organize the transport of any material they wish to bring.
Selection Process
Proposals to host Learning Labs will be reviewed by the AfRP-9 Secretariat. Applications demonstrating innovative and creative learning techniques and topics will be prioritized. Every effort will be made to ensure a variety of topic and facilitators.
The following criteria will be used in the selection process:
Interactive learning and innovative approaches
Relevance of the topic to the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015- 2030 and/or AfRP-9 plenary themes.
Timing: Capacity of the organizers to achieve their objectives in the time allocated.
Reporting
Following the Learning Lab, facilitators must submit a summary to the AfRP Secretariat of no more than 150 words of the event with a list of attendees (disaggregated by gender).
