Working session

Mainstreaming Disaster Resilient Infrastructure in Africa

Least Developed Countries (LDCs) in Africa face a unique challenge of ensuring economic growth and development while addressing multiple challenges of weak infrastructure, limited resources, and heightened susceptibility to climate change and associated disasters.

The inability to cope with and adapt to risks results in significant disaster-related loss of life, livelihoods, and infrastructure, compounding economic shocks and hindering sustainable development. Damage to infrastructure widens existing inequalities by impacting critical services such as education and health.  Hence, closing the infrastructure gap while confirming the resilience of critical sectors – transport, energy, water, and telecom – will drive economic growth, social inclusion, and sustainable development in Africa.

CDRI will convene stakeholders to collectively deliberate on a plan of action to support disaster and climate resilient, inclusive and sustainable infrastructure transition in Africa.
