Leveraging Sendai Framework Analytics by Integrating Disaster Loss Data and Disaggregated Insights for Resilience
The Sendai Framework Monitor (SFM) Platform is a tool to guide risk-informed policy by measuring countries progress against the Sendai Targets. With 33 countries in Africa officially reporting on SFM, it is pivotal that we understand the platform’s analytics and subsequent updates. While the SFM tools and resulting analytics provide essential insights into disaster trends and impacts at a global scale, disaster loss data offers detailed accounts of frequency, severity as well as losses and damage at localized scales. Additionally, by incorporating disaggregated data—such as those segmented by gender, age, or socioeconomic status—into these analyses, we can achieve a more nuanced understanding of how disasters affect different segments of the population and develop risk—informed policies. This comprehensive approach enables stakeholders to identify and address vulnerabilities more precisely, tailor interventions to specific needs, and ensure that disaster risk reduction efforts are evidence-based, equitable and effective across diverse communities, contributing towards the 2030 Sustainable Goals Agenda of “Leave No One Behind”.
